Nomads 10s win in rainy rhyl
Rhyl u10s 2-6 Connahs quay nomads u10s
This morning we travelled to sunny rhyl, but it wasn't so sunny when arriving in the heavy rain, we arrived without 5 of our players due to 3 being involved with there counties, 1 9n holiday and 1 unwell, so we were down to just 9 players which wasn't a problem as thats why we chose to have a bigger squad as we have 5 county players in the squad and it was more game time for our boys,
1st period kicked off and our boys kept the ball well in possession but didn't really create many chances, we pressed really well but we're caught on the counter attack half way through the period when dan McLaughlin (ex nomads) broke clear and was 1 on 1 with Jake Barlow and McLaughlin got to the ball first and squared it to team mate miller parry to score the opening goal for rhyl and that s how the period finished
2nd period, we had a chat with our wingers Connor Dean and Lewis williams to stay wide at half time, as it was really tight in the middle and they did so and it was creating so much space for gethin Roberts and Blake Rigby but we couldn't get our shots off and wernt really testing the rhyl goalkeeper, when really we should of, halfway through the 2nd period our goal finally came when good play down the wing from Dean found Rigby, who then back heeled it to Alfie Griffiths who curled his shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Game was still a little scrappy but we looked in total control and limited rhyl to any chances and the period ended 1-1,
3rd period, this was rhyls best period in our opinion and they worked there socks off to try and get the ball back for there team mates and were creating chances and pressing us back and we started making mistakes and the game was back even as both teams were were trying to get the goal to take the lead. Good work from Rigby released Williams down the right side and he delivered a inch perfect cross to find Griffiths at the back post and he made no mistake with his header which flew past rhyls keeper to make it 1-2 nomads, rhyl were still pressing high and looked like a threat at times and they got there 2nd goal when we should have cleared the danger and we didn't and we were punished at the back post from a good finish from Jacob Duffy and it was 2-2,
4th period we spoke with the boys to really stretch the pitch and this was our best period as we punished rhyl for there mistakes, a long ball through from wil smith to Alfie Griffiths found himself clear through on goal and just got there before there keeper and toe poked it past the keeper to make it 2-3 Nomads and Griffiths had his hat-trick, not long after that Griffiths turned provider as he pulled the ball back in the box to find Connor Dean who finished superbly into the top corner 2-4, rhyl heads dropped a little and nomads were pressurised the rhyl boys into mistakes. The boys were showing really good energy levels as we thought they would drop after playing the night before against Wrexham but they kept going and jack Woodward a makeshift forward for the last 7 mins worked his sock off down the left and smashed a criss in hard and low and found Blake Rigby who had a tap in from close range, 3 mins later the same combination of players linked up again and Woodward set up Rigby who fired his 2nd goal past the rhyl keeper and made it 2-6 and that's how the game ended in the heavy rain.
Overall me and Jason have been delighted with the boys performance over the 2 games this weekend and are taking all the information on board and challenges we are given the players, well done to all.
Player of the match was awarded to Alfie Griffiths for his hatrick
