Plenty of tries in an exciting game

Top of the table Morpeth visited Consett for the 3rd round of this season’s games. Both our 1st team and our 2nd team were to face up to formidable tasks.

Morpeth 1st XV have had a great start to the season, already sitting clear at the top of the league, scoring tries for fun in their previous two fixtures. However, it was Consett who came flying out of the blocks and were the first to score with Jack Beckwith powering over following great handling. Morpeth soon came back with a converted try of their own. The conditions were good and tries by both sides were scored at regular intervals during the first half. Consett though, were having problems with their goal kicking but not so Morpeth.

The second half continued as the first with Morpeth’s backs showing plenty of athleticism and skill while Consett forwards were more of a match for their counterparts, although they also had to contend with 3 yellow cards.

A great match with plenty of good tries scored by both teams although Morpeth showed more class and confirmed their early status as possible league champions. Consett had to be content with a try scoring bonus point.

As usual George Ledger was at the club to record the moments in both the 1st team and 2nd team games. Click here to shortcut to 1st XV album and 2nd XV album.

George had an earlier start to his day with Consett taking the opportunity whilst having 2 teams at home to update their team and player profile shots. A few Colts also had their photos taken (Morpeth having cancelled their game) and for the first time a few of our new Ladies’ team had their portraits taken. The outcomes of these photos will take some time to process but will then be used throughout the rest of the season on our website and our various social media feeds.

Well done to 2 strong Morpeth sides and a big improvement from a competitive Consett first XV and the 2nds for having their first run out of the season and of course George, for all his continued efforts and hard work.

Home again next week!
