Winlaton kicked off and from the drop out were awarded a penalty in front of the Consett posts which was converted giving the hosts an early lead. The lead did not last long, as from the kick off the Consett pack won the ball from which John Rowbotham broke through the Winlaton defensive line and went over for a try between the posts, Tom Johnson converting.
Consett enjoyed a good spell of possession, attacking constantly, the visitors were rewarded with a further 3 tries by Steven Marshall, John Astbury and Liam Bartle
Tom Johnson adding 2 conversions and was unlucky to hit the upright with the third.
Winlaton replied with a try of their own after exploiting the short side after an attacking 5 metre scrum, scoring in the corner. Winlaton added the extras.
After half time Consett immediately put the pressure on the hosts as man of the match Astbury bagged his second try of the game following a good run down the right wing. Astbury was unlucky not to score more as the full back looked dangerous every time he had the ball in his hands.
Marshall grabbed his second try of the game following good work from the forwards and excellent support play from substitute Geraint Smith.
Winlaton however, battled back and the pressure paid off with a score in the corner following a number of drives by their pack.
Winlaton continued to press and with Consett a man down, they looked threatening. Excellent defence from the Consett forwards managed to shut down the attacks preventing any more scores.
A well deserved bonus point win for Consett pushing them up to 3rd in the league however, this game proved the point that there are no easy games in this Division.
