On the back of arguably the best performance of the season against Hartlepool, confidence was at a seasons high and Consett were looking to finish the season off in style....and they did just that.
Consett ran in 7 Tries in the first half including an impressive hat trick for Adam Wilkinson. Consett probably have scored a few more but some sloppy handling errors prevented that, especially Gerrys worst attempt at a switch I have ever seen! P&S did manage to grab a deserved try after some weak defence by the visitors. Jonathan Hames had his kicking boots on again this week converting 6 of the 7 (thanks to the SM supertee).
Things did get a little bit heated towards the end of the first half resulting in 2 P&S players binned and prop Carl Pearson getting binned for the 37th time this season.
The second half was all Consett as P&S started to tire. The Derwentside men ran in another 8 tries (7 converted by Jonty) and were well in control. 1st xv debutant Andrew Stobart managed to bag a brace but the moment of the match had to be when Number 8/Blinside Flanker/Inside Centre/Loose Head prop Stephen Walls showed some tight tekkers and chipped the ball over the defensive line, gathered and fed Ben Robson to score under the sticks.
Chris ‘penalty try’ Austin also bagged a couple of tries and Astbury got a hat trick but he does that all the time so no one cares anymore. Ricky Grey didn’t score and Lewy got smacked.
Overall a good win to round the season off and secure a respectable 4th place in the league....See you in pre-season
