It was always going to be one of the most difficult fixtures of the season and it certainly lived up to expectations. After a long period of preseason the boys felt they were ready for the tough season ahead!
Consett kicked off and Horden were immediately on the front foot after catching the kick off! Consett tried to defend strongly but regularly found themselves against a 4:1 overlap! Horden duly took advantage of this and their clinical finishing saw them score 61 points, over half of which were scored in the first half! Consett also managed to score in the first half through Steven Marshall following a set play move from the top of the line out, ensuring Consett weren't totally embarrassed in the opening weekend! Even with the wind in the second half and probably the better of the territory, Consett failed to score in this half.
There were positives to take from the game in the fact that some of last years Juniors retained their places when playing senior rugby last year and the Consett backs appeared threatening at times however Consett will have to work hard this week in training as they travel to a young, well drilled Medicals side this coming weekend.
Scorers:
Steven Marshall - Try
Nick Cook - Conversion
