Tiring Consett seen off by Gateshead

Following a 5 minute break at the end of the Blaydon game, we lined up to face a Gateshead side wanting to put right their earlier defeat to Blaydon. We started this game with the same team that ended against Blaydon so lined up 1.Conall Ruddick 2.Joe Hull 3.Ciaran Horgan 4.Ethan Philipson 5.Matthew Gunnion 6.Keiran Dover 7.Brad Smith 8.Christy Wood 9.Nathan Williamson 10.Dan Smith 11.Matthew Lovett 12.Alexander Jackson 13.Joe Charlton 14.Tommy Tennant 15.Mati Gorski with the replacements being Josh Jelly, John Brown, Dillan Telford and Scott Redshaw.

From the kick off it became apparent that Gateshead were more up for the fight than we were and we never really got going throughout the game. Gateshead looked sharper, getting numbers in at the breakdown and turning us over whenever we did get good possession. To be fair to our lads, we looked tired and I think the fact that we had just came off the back of a hard, physical game against Blaydon had took it its toll on our lads, they were so up for the start of the season that they just put too much effort into that first game. Take nothing away from Gateshead though, they worked the ball around well and throughly deserved their 25-0 win.

Positives to take from the game are that this was our first games of the season and our fitness will improve with every game, the new lads Ethan and Matthew L. settled in to the team well and once again, we never gave up and kept plugging away till the final whistle.

Man of the match in this game was Joe Charlton, he was outstanding in this game and seemed to be all over the pitch and was unlucky to not get his reward of a try with a great break down the wing. A special mention must also go to all of the parents today, it ended up being a long day of rugby so a big thank you for your support from all of the team.
