Borough got off to the best possible start and took the lead on six minutes when the prolific Corrig McGonigle came up with another clinical finish following a period of pressure to break the deadlock.

After the break Borough extended their advantage on 53 minutes when Sean McCaffrey headed the ball through to the feet of Corrig McGonigle, who made no mistake with a shot on the turn to hit his second goal of the afternoon.

However, the hosts hit back with a Paul Griffiths goal on 60 minutes. But their task was made more difficult on 65 minutes when they were reduced to ten men after Matt Bumford saw red.

Mark Williams’ side managed to take advantage of their numerical advantage to restore their two-goal cushion on 85 minutes when Liam Morris finished well after more good approach play from McCaffrey.

The talismanic Corrig McGonigle had a golden chance to seal his hat-trick in the 88th minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty, but the striker saw his attempt saved in what turned out to be the final goalmouth action of their triumph.
