Borough inflict first away defeat of the season on Penrhyncoch FC

Borough moved up to second in the JD Cymru North standings with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Penrhyncoch at Y Morfa on Saturday afternoon.
It has been a great start to the season by Borough, who extended their run of positive results to move up to second in the table behind leaders Prestatyn Town.

Mark Williams and Warren Gibbs's side will be aiming for further success this coming Saturday when they travel to Guilsfield, who go into the game on the back of a 4-1 defeat at Colwyn Bay.

Borough dominated possession for the majority of the early stages of the contest without taking full advantage of their opportunities, with Cory Wlliams proving to be a threat in the final third. Liam Morris fired an attempt narrowly over on 40 minutes after good work from Tom Clarke in the build-up, but the hosts did receive a boost early in the second period when the Roosters’ were reduced to ten men following a lash out by Lance Jones on Sean McCaffrey. Borough took advantage of their numerical supremacy and went ahead on 64 minutes when Craig Whelan made the most of a chance after being teed up superbly by the influential Sean McCaffrey.

This opened the floodgates, and shortly after Cory Williams’ ambitious effort sailed inches wide McGonigle latched on to a long ball from keeper Ben Heald to double the lead with 71 minutes played. The introduction of Harry Galeotti brought some added pace in the final third for the home side in the closing stages, and they wrapped up another three points on 78 minutes when McGonigle converted his second of the game with an effort on the rebound from a penalty.
