A first half Ricky Evans free-kick secured a 1-0 win at Guilsfield on Saturday to end a run of four consecutive league defeats.

A first half Ricky Evans free-kick secured a 1-0 win at Guilsfield on Saturday to end a run of four consecutive league defeats and move the Tangerines off the bottom of the Huws Gray Alliance table.

"We started brightly and took the game to Guilsfield and could of easily of been three up but we just couldn't get the goal." said Aden Shannon. "But we managed to get ourselves in front after a wonderful free kick from Ricky. In the second half they came at us but we defended superbly and the lads were outstanding from start to finish."

Shannon made a number of changes to the starting line-up with new signing Toby Jones introduced in attack alongside Ricky Evans making his league debut. In defence Teddy Whelan was brought in for his first start of the season and Ian Willis was given a place in the centre of the Tangerines midfield. The Tangerines had only beaten the hosts once in the last four attempts having been on the end of three defeats and as expected were given another tough work out.

The Tangerines invigorated forward line caused the Guilsfield defence all sorts of problems early on although the home side had some chances of their own. However, it was no more than Conwy deserved when another surging Jack Roberts run inside earnt a free kick just outside the box. Up stepped veteran striker Evans to score his third goal in two games since joining as he placed his free kick superbly into the bottom corner to put his side ahead on 35 minutes.

In the second half the home side put the Tangerines defence under constant pressure but the visitors could of gone further ahead on 60 mins when a superb Andy Brown strike from outside the box rattled the bar.

However, the Tangerines defence held out resolutely, surviving a series of corner kicks and balls pumped into the box to keep a first clean sheet of the season and grind out a precious three points which sees the Tangerines off the bottom and climb two places into 14th spot.
