The Tangerines fell behind within the first minute of the game but three second half goals courtesy of a Lee Davey double and a Tom Morris strike earned the victory which has boosted the survival hopes of Brian Pritchard's men.
The win was the first in six matches and moves the Tangerines within three points of Mold in 12th spot with a run of five consecutive home games now in store, starting this Saturday at home to Gresford (KO 2.30pm).
Porthmadog have been flying high in the league this season and had already registered two big wins against Conwy in the league and cup this season. The home side got of to a great start with the first attack of the game inside the first minute as debutant forward Meilir Williams pounced onto a misjudged back pass to the keeper and finished past Conwy stopper Josh Cook.
However, the Tangerines held firm, dominating the majority of the possession in the half. Tangerines striker Mark Buchan, who was tireless in his work rate, sent a shot over the bar and then went close with a header from a Derek Taylor free-kick. The home side then cleared off the line following Taylor’s corner kick as the Tangerines threatened. Ben Glover and Adam Hold then went close before the home side finished the half with chances of their own as the score remained 1-0 at the interval.
Conwy put on the pressure at the start of the half with Derek Taylor’s free kick pushed around the post. From the resultant corner the Tangerines got back on level terms as Lee Davey met Ben Gloves cross to turn it in on 58’ mins.
The Tangerines took a deserved lead on 76’ mins through a fine individual effort from defender Tom Morris who turned inside the box to fire his shot into the corner of the net. Conwy defended any home attacks resolutely and the points were sealed on 85 mins when Lee Davey turned inside the box to finish from 12 yards to the delight of the Conwy faithful. After the game Conwy manager Brian Pritchard was clearly pleased with his sides effort and commitment ”I am delighted that the hard work we have been putting in during training has paid off. I'm hoping that this result gives the necessary belief to the players that they are good enough and that they continue to keep moving forward in the remaining games.”
The Tangerines will be hoping for some good support to get behind the team with five consecutive home games coming up as the survival bid enters a crucial period.
