Conwy Borough secured a 2-1 victory over Flint Town to move second in the table

Conwy Borough were made to work for a 2-1 win over Flint Town United, a victory that sees the club go second in the table, ahead of the visit of Cefn Druids on Saturday at 2:30pm.

Gareth Sudlow’s stoppage time winner delighted the home crowd, after former Tangerine Lee Davey had cancelled out Alan Bull’s opener.

Conwy Borough manager Darren Moss was pleased with the professional performance of his side, but was left frustrated that the rearranged tie had to be played so close to the clash with Druids.

On the last minute winner Moss said, “It just shows the character of the boys, we spoke at half time about continuing to believe and to keep going and we got the goal. For me, we deserved all three points and that gives us great belief going into Saturday.”

In a tense first half with few genuine goal scoring opportunities, the best effort came from a long range Danny Desormeaux strike that clipped the cross bar on the way over. Conwy had perhaps shaded the affair but Flint deservedly went in level.

“All credit to Flint, they came with a game plan and made it difficult for us. They played three in midfield and at times in the first half we found it difficult, so we went with three in midfield to match them up in the second half”, said Moss.

The change reaped earlier dividends as in the 53rd minute, following the best passing move of the match down the right wing, Peter Doran picked the ball up on the edge of the area and floated a pass for Bull to head into the bottom corner.

“I thought the change worked well for ten or fifteen minutes and showed a different side to us. We created a few chances and were disappointed to concede after that”, Moss added.

After a throw in from the right was flicked on Davey was alert and reacted first to the ball in the six yard box. His angled finish off the underside of the crossbar gave Louie Mackin no chance in the Conwy goal.

The visitors, who were much improved from their previous visit to Y Morfa earlier in the season, seemed content to settle for a point and continued to frustrate the Tangerines.

But with almost the final kick of the game Sudlow rose highest to head home a Peter Doran corner and was mobbed by his team mates, showing just how important three points were.

After the match Moss also took time to praise the performances of Steve Connor and Matty Holt, who both started the game having not had many playing minutes of late. “I thought Matty conducted himself really well in Teddy Whelan’s absence and has given me a bit of a headache for Saturday now.”

St. David’s Day could see a first versus second clash, depending on Caernarfon's result on Wednesday night, and the match could have a very significant bearing on the promotion race come the end of the season.
