Conwy went one better than at the weekend, this time scoring four times without reply in a hard fought win at West Cheshire champions, Ashville.

On a bumpy pitch, it was Conwy who started brightly with Luke O'Mahoney and Eddie Jebb making some good runs down the flanks and getting in behind the Ashville defence. It was former Tranmere man, Karl Dunbar, who forced the ball into the opposition net from close range to give 'Borough an early lead in the first five minutes. However, Conwy couldn't add to the total in the remainder of the first half as Ashville were a determined and competitive side. The score remained at 1-0 going into half-time.

The second half started much the same as the first half with Ashville applying some pressure on the Conwy defence and having missed a chance to equalise with a close range downward header that bounced over the bar.

However, in the end, the superior fitness levels of the Conwy Borough players paid off with three well taken goals. Firstly, Eddie Jebb was put through on goal and he calmly rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. It was Lee Hammond, captain for the night in the absence of Mike Sharples (back injury), who made it 3-0 with a well struck left footed free-kick into the bottom left hand corner of the Ashville net. Tom McGill then atoned for two earlier misses with only the keeper to beat by hitting the fourth goal, rounding the keeper to finish from a narrow angle.

Conwy Manager Chris Herbert was pleased with the result:
“It wasn't a great performance by any stretch of the imagination. But 4-0 was probably a fair result in the end. We were a little disjointed at times in the game, but we showed good character to battle out a result on a very bobbly pitch against a physical side.”

“There will be times this season where we will have to grind the results out on a bad pitch and against aggressive styles of play. So it was a good test in the end. It's always nice to keep winning games, and keeping clean sheets.”

The only areas of concern were injuries sustained to player/assistant manager, John Keegan (ankle), and utility player, Matty Singleton (knee), which forced both players off the pitch. The extent of the injuries will hopefully be known within the next few days and we wish both a speedy recovery.

Another point of interest was that the clubs previous management team of Mick McGraa & Steve Aspinall both appeared for Ashville. Aspinall had a solid game at left back while McGraa came on as a sub later on in the second half.

All-in-all another good workout for Chris Herbert's men who now have three wins on the bounce going into Saturday's home game against local rivals, Llandudno Junction (2.30pm).
