Plenty of goals, spread around, but no hattrick! Good to keep a clean sheet

Managers Programme Notes:

Good evening all,

Frustratingly we did not get to play on Saturday, due to yet more poor weather, which wiped out all SCEFL matches on grass in the Premier division. This means it rolls over to Saturday 7th and the Glebe SCEFL match is now due to be played on Tuesday 21st April in the final week of the season. Less than 48 hours after the Kent Cup final, which is clearly less than ideal. However, we have a packed fixture schedule, playing virtually every Saturday and Tuesday between now and the end of April, so a pile up was almost inevitable at some point. The draw for the FA Vase Semi Final was made Monday lunchtime and the winner of the match on Saturday will play the favourites for the competition Hebburn Town, with the first leg at home on Saturday 21st March and the return leg the following week up at Hebburn.

Tonight sees us host an Erith and Belvedere side in complete transition. I would like to welcome new manager Del Oldfield, his coaching staff, players and supporters of Erith and Belvedere and hope you enjoy your evening with us. Erith have just been taken over by two of my former teammates and I am sure they will turn the fortunes around of this sleeping giant. We now face a completely different Erith side to what we would have done so, even 7 days ago, so those assuming this is a routine three points, I would suggest the absolute opposite and this is now an incredible hard fixture. Some of the players Erith have been linked with and signed have huge pedigree and experience, so we will need to ensure we do not slip up against a side that I now believe will start to climb the table.

We have slipped down to third place in the table as a result of not having a game at the weekend and are now in a position to chase the teams above us, which has suited us well so far this season. We of course can still go top if we win our games in hand, but points on the board at this stage of the season are so much more important and if you look at the fixtures, the teams at the top will be level on games around the end of March, so that will be the first time you really see who is going to be challenging in the last month of the season.

The objective at the start of the season, was to still be challenging for something or involved in competitive football at the turn of April. We now have a month to remain in contact with the teams around us for this to be the case. We won 4 out of 5 in February, with the only non-win, the away draw at Sheppey at the start of the month. We scored 15 in those 4 other games, conceding only 3 goals, keeping 2 clean sheets. Another really productive month. Something we will need to build on and improve, should we stand a chance of achieving our objective both this evening and going forward this season.

I hope you all enjoy the game this evening,

Michael
