Corsham 1 didn't get their dream start, but....

Well... it was great to be back on court playing competitive netball again after 18 months away. The smiles, the chat, the busy courts, the atmosphere It was genuinely great to see all the teams out playing again and you could see how happy everyone was to be there.

Corsham 1's lined up with 4 new faces to the club all who joined us this season, after the club had a great turn out for their trial sessions. Also for those existing players at Corsham they were all but 1 player different to the team that that took the court back in February 2020 for the first team! Unfortunately for Corsham that showed during the game and just the lack of sharpness and pass selection meant they walked away with no points.

That being said the positives to take away, were immense and I don't think we have ever walked away from a defeat and felt positive, but as we've said a brand new team forming a partnership was unlikely to form within a blow of the first whistle. There is a lot of skill in this team and we have no doubt with some work in training a couple more matches under our belt we are going to be a solid team that can cause some big wins soon.

The first quarter of the match was a telling sign for both teams that the players hadn't been in a competitive game for some time as it was a very low scoring quarter with just 6 goals on the board.

After getting over the shock of 'we're actually playing netball' the second quarter saw both teams increase the tempo and find their rhythm, the goals started to come and the midcourt battle that you see so often in netball was happening again. However for Corsham it was obvious that this is the area of improvement, over thrown passes, running away from the ball and not finding space were to evident and we gifted Chippenham with some easy turn overs that they didn't have to work for at all.

The fourth quarter came with many of us feeling the tired legs, but we started the quarter brightly and pulled the 7 goal deficit back, but Chippenham reacted to our fast start and came back at us to walk away 33-21 winners.

Corsham's player of the match was Tegs James - shooting some great goals and worked hard in the circle to get into some great spaces.

Yes the teams heads were down and frustrated to lose - no-one likes losing right? But the team know where things were going wrong and know where we have to improve, it's a sign of a good team that can see their own faults. It's a sign of a great team that then put the hard work in to correct them.

The team have a couple of weeks now before their next game, so training is going to be vital to pull on those errors that changed the game last night.

Though this report is talking about mistakes and missed chances, do not be under the impression that this team wont do well. This team has the makings to be great SO watch this space...
