After an enforced 2 year hiatus due to work to develop Ysgol Maes Hyfryd (now Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy) making the pitch unavailable, the annual 7 a side senior men’s football competition known as Cynwyd Cup returned for the first time since 2012.

Previously being a straight knock out completion held over a week the tournament returned with a new format, taking place over one day, with all 5 teams facing each other in a round-robin completion, with the top two progressing to the final.

The 10 round robin games provided some great entertainment for the large crowd, with the second finalists not being confirmed until the penultimate game, as Bush Makers needing a point against the Underdogs to progress to the final, who needed all 3 points to progress. A couple of early goals took the stuffing out the Underdogs, who lost the game 5-0.

The final saw the Bush Makers take on BalotelliTubies, who had won the group fixture 7-0 in a fifteen minute tie, so many feared a bigger drubbing in a 20 minute game played over two halves; however the game proved to be closer, with BalotelliTubies, captained by Tomos Williams, getting a crucial goal just before the break to turn the tie in their favour. BalotelliTubies went on to win the final by four goals to nil to claim the trophy.

Cynwyd Football Club would like to thank all of the teams for taking part. The club would also like to thank everyone who helped out on the day and beforehand to ensure the day went well, we hope we can count on your support for the 2016 competition.
