On the day before Halloween Corwen had an Ardal Northern East league tie, which saw them make the trip to the Mid-West Wales Coast to take on Bow Street. The two sides had met earlier in the season, with today’s hosts running out 5-1 winners. Corwen’s hopes of not repeating that horror show of a result were not helped by the fact they could only name eleven players and no substitutes as due to injuries, suspensions and other commitments the away side had a significant number of absentees.
It was the visitors that started the brighter, with Scott Evans playing a corner into the Bow Street box, where Harry Pooler got his head to the ball, but sent his effort against the far post.
Corwen’s Tom Williams took on Tomos Roberts at the side of the Bow Street box and after getting beyond him he played the ball back to Scott Evans, whose shot from distance whistled just over the bar.
Goal
With six minutes of the opening half to play the deadlock was broken as Scott Evans played the ball to Tom Williams, who made no mistake as his fine finish got the better of keeper Ben Willis.
Half Time
After the break the home side came charging out of the blocks in a bid to level the scores, as Osian Burrell ran at the Corwen goal, where Harry Pooler cut off his angle at goal, forcing him to shoot the ball into the outer side netting.
Bow Street looked to equalise from a corner, which Corwen goalkeeper Josh Williams came to collect, but spilt under pressure; however Bow Street could only send the resulting shot wide of the target.
The hosts came close to levelling the scores, but a goal bound shot was tipped onto the bar from a great save from Josh Williams, after which the ball was on its way to dropping over the line; however Harry Pooler was in the right place to clear the ball off the line.
At the other end Scott Evans attempted to double his side’s advantage from a free kick, but his effort went narrowly wide.
A couple of minutes later Matthew Williams played the ball to Tom Williams, who made an angled run at goal, but saw his shot curl narrowly wide of the target.
Goal
With twenty minutes to play Josh Williams lay off a long clearance to Tom Williams, who saw his shot blocked by Tomos Roberts. Corwen were able to win the ball back and play it to Owen Cordiner, who was able to find space in the box before curling his shot into the back of the net.
Goal
It was game set and match nine minutes later, as the ball was played to Oliver Crimp on the wing, who made his way into the box, where despite having well positioned teammates in the penalty area he went for goal himself, which turned out to be the correct decision, as he leathered the ball beyond Ben Willis (pictured).
Bow Street looked for a consolation goal in the closing stages of the game; however the best they could manage was forcing Josh Williams into a couple of saves.
