Corwen 1 v 2 Carno - Ardal North East – 05/02/2022

Corwen’s first home game of 2022 saw them host Carno. The reverse of this fixture took place on August Bank Holiday Weekend and the weather was in complete contrast to the sunny conditions on that day, as a bitterly cold wind whipped across the pitch and there was heavy rainfall throughout the game. Whoever was responsible for washing the kits will be glad the game was taking place on 3G and not grass!

Early on in the game Corwen were awarded a free kick near the corner flag, which Kian Harrison took and floated into the danger area, where it smashed against the crossbar.

Goal

With fourteen minutes on the clock Kian was in the thick of the action again as he played a Corner into the Carno box, where Charlie Parkinson was waiting to get his head to the ball and his bullet header went beyond a stranded Jake Baker in the Carno goal and into the corner of the net (pictured). The goal meant Charlie capped his senior home debut with his first goal in senior football.

The visitors looked to respond from a twenty-fifth minute corner, but they could only head the ball narrowly wide of the target. This was closely followed by Sean Wild taking a free kick from the edge of the box, which was met by the head of Michael Bebb, who saw his free header saved by Nathan Roberts.

Goal

The scores were level in the thirty-fourth minute, when Adam Biggs took a free kick, which he didn’t hit as well as would have liked, which may have fooled Nathan Roberts, as the ball went around the wall and into the back of the net.

The home side looked to re-take the lead as Joel Gardner played the ball to Kian Harrison, who had found some space in the penalty area; however he couldn’t control the ball, which prevented him from getting a shot away.

Goal

Six minutes before the interval Carno hit Corwen on the counter attack, which came to fruition when Ryan Pugh got through on goal and fired an on target shot, which Nathan got something on, but he couldn’t prevent it from going in.

Carno looked as if they were going to establish a two goal cushion as a shot was heading for the top corner; however Nathan Roberts was able to pull off a great save at full stretch to keep the deficit at one.

The last action of the half saw Kian Harrison take on and go past Sean Wild before curling a shot at goal, which was gathered by Jake Baker.

Half time

On the hour mark substitute Faris Al-Assaf won the ball in midfield and ran at the Carno goal and then played in Kian Harrison, whose angled shot ran across the box and hit the far post.

Adam Biggs looked to stretch the visitors lead as he stole the ball in midfield and was bearing down on goal, but he could only send his shot from the edge of the box wide of the target.

Corwen looked to earn a share of the spoils in the closing stages as the men in red and black chased down a Kian Harrison free kick, but Jake Baker won the race as he came off his line to gather the ball.

The home side had a final effort at goal in stoppage time; however the shot went over the bar, which confirmed the defeat for Corwen.
