A bye in the league fixtures allowed CPRFC to slot in a friendly game against St Brendan's on the new 4G pitch at Coombe Dingle. A crisp, clear winter day and level, clean surface hinted at plenty of running rugby and Cotham didn't disappoint.
Cotham came out on top after an early arm-wrestle in the first fifteen minutes with the teams exchanging tries. But following this sustained period, Cotham racked it up a gear and took the game away from the hosts. An excellent, well-rounded performance saw a plethora of tries amongst both forwards and backs. Back-row partners Dom Carroll and Mike Cooper helped themselves to two tries each. Speaking of well-rounded, the finishing of tries to both Mick Glenfield and Kerry Brimblecombe could be the stuff of next-generation hyperbolic campfire stories. Also getting in on the act were Jonny Alexander, George Chislett and Connor French, who all crossed the whitewash.
Damien Myers had a perfect day off the tee with five from five conversions and Luke Spicer sent one over just prior to full time to finish things off.
A great win and really useful exercise in preparation for next weekend's grudge match against Aretians.
Man of the match was awarded to Ben Skuse, the quiet work-horse hooker who was everywhere in support.
