The local Derby. Cojags came out hard for the first quarter, fighting for every ball and trying to prove themselves as the better Cambridgeshire team. After a few goal to goal centres, Cojags began to take the lead by pressuring Comberton passes, forcing multiple off the goal line. Some beautiful through court play led to Cojags capitalising on the great turnovers made from the defensive box. Emma and Ellie set up an effective screen which led to some awesome feeds in from Jen and Fleur. After a very intense first quarter it ended 10-6 to Cojags. Cojags went into the second quarter with the same fighting mentality, but Comberton put on a full court zone making it very hard for us to travel the ball down court. It took this quarter for us to adjust and adapt to this new game, however, everyone fought tirelessly to keep us in the game and quarter ended 17-17. An awesome team talk from Jess led to us refocusing and understanding how to break this zone. In the third quarter, we began to run away with it and the win was in site. We saw Charlie take the position of GA and her work in the circle was phenomenal. She split the defence easing the pressure on our feeders and popped in some beautiful long range shots. Monika also came in on the position of WD, her athleticism led to her making multiple tips and interceptions and equally working the ball down court beautifully. Mon and Jen complimented the defensive unit of Anya and Kerri and helped us secure an 11 goal lead. Anya and Kerri made numerous interceptions and worked hard putting the shooters under pressure so the defence could secure the rebound. Some awesome shooting percentages led to us finishing the third quarter, 32-21. Heading into the fourth quarter, Maiya came on at C and Jen moved to WA. The shooters remained solid and ran rings around a very impressive Comberton defence. Kerri, Anya and Mon continued to turn balls to help us increase our lead by two. The match remained very well contested throughout and it was great too see some new combinations trialed and tested. The final score was 44-31, and special thanks to Jess for being the brains behind this win.
