The final piece in the first team staff has been found and we are pleased to announce that David Deakin has joined us as our First Team physio.
David has already attended two first team friendly fixtures and was straight into action on Tuesday night against Hinckley which was less than 24 hours after his appointment. A whirlwind start for David continued when he took his place in the Sphinx dugout for our friendly against Bedworth on Saturday. He has slotted into the team well and his presence has already proven to be invaluable.
David is a former player who suffered multiple knee dislocations and ligament ruptures during his career. He recalls playing against Sphinx teams several times and managed to get sent off playing against the Sphinx Youth at one point!
We had a chat with David after his appointment and he told us: “I was inspired by my own physios to change career from a football journalist to a Sports Therapist. I always had an interest in injury recovery and prevention due to my own injury problems that led to a football career based on Darren Anderton. I got into Journalism to cover and be close to football. When that became more news focused I decided to change career to chase my dream of a career in football.”
Our physio role is crucial for the welfare of the players at the club and David brings a real enthusiasm to the role. We are looking to secure sponsorship for our First Team physio to enable him to provide the best service that he possibly can.
