Lee Knibbs signs defender Jack Rooney

We are delighted to announce the return of Jack Rooney to Coventry Sphinx. Jack had a successful spell at Coventry Sphinx from 2014 to 2016 before moving on to Coventry Copsewood. At our neighbours he chalked up 53 appearances and now returns to Coventry Sphinx to continue his football career at Sphinx Drive.
Jack is primarily a centre back but he has proven before that he can slot in at full back or the centre of midfield if necessary. In his first spell at the club he joined the Coventry Sphinx Under 18’s team at the start of the 2014/15 season but rapidly forced himself into the first team picture. Once he was in the first team there was no looking back for him as he racked up 47 appearances that season. What made that even more impressive was that he continued to play for the Youth team where he collected two trophies. The Youth team secured a league and cup double that season with Jack Rooney a key figure in that success. The performances and commitment of Jack that season was rightly acknowledged at the Coventry Sphinx end of season awards where he also picked up two individual first team awards. Jack Rooney received the Young Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year awards at presentation night.
The following season the popular defender went on to make 42 appearances in the Coventry Sphinx first team before moving on to Coventry Copsewood in the summer of 2016. Jack Rooney is still a young man but he has already accumulated 142 appearances in the Midland Football League so he brings with him a wealth of experience at this level. He currently sits on 89 first team appearances for Coventry Sphinx and now he has returned to what many people consider home he has the opportunity to reach the special 100 appearances mark for the club.
We offer Jack a very warm welcome back to Sphinx Drive and wish him the very best of luck in the second chapter of his Coventry Sphinx career.
