One of two Sphinx victories on the day

On Sunday, Micky Bell and his team took the Coventry Sphinx Under 13s squad to the Bedworth Oval for the Bedworth Nursing Cup Final and returned to Coventry proudly holding the winner’s trophy.
They took the trophy in a closely fought game in which Sphinx only secured victory with a last minute goal. The Coventry Copsewood team had played well too but it was Coventry Sphinx who got the goals to win the game.
Sphinx opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute with the penalty from Arjun Thandi proving too good for the keeper despite his excellent effort to reach the ball. In the 18th minute, Sphinx extended their lead with a marvellous goal from Samuel Muwumbi. His pace and strength got the better of the defender and soon after entering the penalty area he thumped a rising drive into the back of the net. An excellent start for Sphinx but Copsewood showed great spirit to come back at Sphinx and they went on to have a fair amount of the half.
The second half continued with Copsewood pushing hard to find that crucial goal and with 10 minutes to go they got the goal they deserved with a tidy close range finish. It was all to play for now with Copsewood going for the equaliser but in the last minute of the game Dennis Djeukam was rewarded for his hard work with a good finish past the exposed Copsewood keeper.
Both teams had produced a game worthy of a cup final and both teams deserve enormous credit for the display they put on in front of the good crowd at the Bedworth Oval.
Congratulations to the Coventry Sphinx Under 13s for winning the Bedworth Nursing Cup and commiserations to their opponents Coventry Copsewood.
