An excellent league campaign ended up with the Coventry Sphinx Youth team taking the runners up spot in the MFYL Eastern Division. They completed the season as top scorers in the Division with young striker Dan Kelly bagging an incredible 35 goals. Players such as T’ahje Smith, Alex Pearson and Owen Gorman also weighed in with plenty of goals. The consistent performances of the Youth team have now produced the reward of promotion to the Premier Division of the Midland Floodlit Youth League.
Manager Dave Bull said: “The squad I had last season were a credit to themselves and the football club. Promotion to the Premier Division will only improve the players further as they now take on the best teams in the Midlands. My assistants Martelle Pearson and Lee Moore more than played their part in the success of last season and I cannot thank them enough for their dedication and support.”
A number of Youth players moved into the first team squad during last season and five of those players will now be formally invited to sign first team forms ahead of the new season. The pathway to first team football is clear at Coventry Sphinx and we are looking to add to our Youth squad this summer. Our first trials session will be on Tuesday 2nd July at 7pm at our home ground, Sphinx Drive, CV3 1WA. You can pre-register your interest by emailing our secretary Sharon with your name, date of birth, football history and preferred position.
