Saturday was the fourth anniversary of Paul Gibbons passing all players officials and spectators were impeccable during the minutes silence that was held just before kick off.
Sphinx surrendered their unbeaten home record mainly due to a dour first half. Tividale could of been one up as early as the third minute when a cross come shot cannoned off the post. carl O'Neill then pulled off two very good saves to deny Tividale whilst up the other end Sphinx could only muster long range efforts. the rest of the half will be remembered for some a strange sending off. Sphinx keeper Carl O'Neill accidently handled the ball out of his area right on the corner of the left hand side of the box with the Tividale forward 10 yards away walking the other way. The referee deemed it a red card stating he denied a goalscoring chance how that is was beyond everyone in the ground including the two benches. He then sent off the tividale forward for a elbow to the head.
the second half Sphinx had 90% of the display and had a few half chances they failed to convert. Playing a 4-3-2 formation Sphinx started knocking the ball around well with the midfield three of bannister gaunt and Bilic who replaced Galdins at half time dictating the play.
For all there endeavour Sphinx got done by the sucker punch whilst pushing forward a long ball over the top found the Tividale forward and slotted past the replacement keeper Ashley Jackson. Tividale had a great chance to put the game to bed but crashed an effort against the bar when it seemed easier to score.
Sphinx battled back and in the 85th minute Jackson downie scored a defected goal which gave Sphinx hope. It was a long five plus injury time minutes for Tividale as Sphinx piled on the pressure and nearly got a deserved point for their second half display when Bilic flashed a shot just wide of the far post.
Sphinx downfall over the last few games has been there first half performances if they can get that right then there will be far more wins than losses for the remainder of the season.
