Despite the freezing rain...
What a fantastic team performance from the under 10s on Sunday. Despite the early start, freezing rain and some lack of waterproof tops (and a right-royal drenching) the boys turned in a brilliant performance with a great combined training session with the hosts - whose delicious bacon rolls aromas were already wafting across the training fields at 9am in the morning as we arrived off the 8am Fishbourne ferry. The weather itself was far less interested in our fortunes and continued to pound us from above and for the next 40 minutes!
The U10s then quickly settled into some good training drills - arranged by Fareham's excellent geordie head coach Mikey - and the boys quickly pressed themselves into a match game Fareham v Vectis with Rafe B expertly helping out the Heathens to make up the numbers. Vectis were soon on the offensive with some powerful driving footwork, straight off the training ground and admirably led by Alex W, our eventual golden boot winner, Clyde H also working extremely hard every time he got the ball. Leo D also had a storming early game showing his power and crossing for two tries, as well Isaac H (2 tries), Jack J (2 tries), Freddie H (1 try) and handful more with great work shown by all. Fareham also showed excellent spirit and bonhomie with some superb running and tries of their own not to mention some great tackling and overall defensive work.
The final word of the afternoon who must go to the golden boot winner Alex W who had an absolutely outstanding man-of-the-match performance stripping countless balls straight out of the arms of the attacking Heathens before setting off on his barnstorming runs up the pitch crossing the line for what much be a U10s club record of 7 (SEVEN) tries nearly all through his excellent driving maul work that the Heathens had no answer in trying to stop him. Coach dad Ian being a very proud father at the end of superb Vectis performance.
Well done all players and the parents for a terrific day out.
Next week the U10s are at the Trojans Festival for what should also be an excellent stepping stone for the future.
