Cowley CC v Allesley CC. Saturday 31st August 2019
By Adrian Blazey
Cowley All at Sea against touring side Allesley
Kieth opted to bat first against our visitors for our final home game of the season. Jonny played a breezy innings including 5 boundary fours at the top of the order but was caught for 27 in the 12th over. Unfortunately that was the highlight of our batting as the rest of the team processed back up to the pavilion at regular intervals. Tom threatened to light things up with 2 sixes but was then bowled with the next delivery for 13. Phil showed some resistance at the end, finishing on 13 not out before running out of partners. No one else managed double figures. So in a 40 over match with each team playing with 13 - we managed a meagre 106 for 12 from 37.4 overs. Following a delicious tea laid on by Charlotte we tried to get in amongst the wickets as we were aware that this was the only chance we had of winning. Joel had a sharp chance put down behind the wickets but then forced a false shot, Aji calmly pouching the catch. The incoming no3 played well, hitting Daniel and Aji for runs before retiring on 30. Phil gave us hope by pinning the other opener LBW and then bowling the no4 with a beauty of a ball that would have beaten most of us. Keith bowled the no6 with his first ball. Will bowled very nicely and was unlucky to have an edge dropped at slip. Will took his catch nicely though to give Jonny a wicket. We took one more scalp before a very competent Allesley side overtook our total as Adrian finally took a nice catch low down at slip. Allesley cruised home to win by 7 wickets in the 28th over. Charlotte came up trumps again with a BBQ and we shared a drink with our visitors as the sun bathed the surrounding hills reminding us how privileged we are to play in such glorious surroundings.
