A packed out Manor Walks was treated to the best that Cramlington has to offer on 2nd September, with leading rugby league club, Cramlington Rockets’ Community team supporting the event that saw a range of local sports teams and community groups showcase themselves to the public.
Children and adults from all parts of Cramlington and beyond were treated to a variety of activities but it was Rockets Community who stole the show! Determined to stand out, the full-time community coaches matted out a section of the shopping centre and allowed children of all ages to come down and try out their rugby tackling skills for free. ‘Bosh The Bear’ aka the Rocket’s popular coach became the new craze even if only for a few hours, with energy levels restored by the club’s community partner, Nando’s Cramlington, arriving with free chicken wings delivered by company mascot, Barci himself.
This great idea was in partnership with Locality Coordinator, Maggie Martin and Cramlington Town Council, as well as other groups such as Autism Northumberland, Cramlington United FC, Cramlington Town FC and the NE Youth.
Maggie Martin was pleased with how well received the event was: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to Cramlington Rockets for coming along and bringing with them their positivity, enthusiasm and creativity to the event. They have been a real hit with the children and parents, and we look forward to working with them again soon”.
Commenting on the event, Rockets Community Manager Steve Beaty said: “We were so grateful to receive the invite and had a great time. In true Rockets fashion, we approached the event with lots of energy and enthusiasm and it was great to see people respond to that. A massive thank you to our friends at Nando’s Cramlington too, we are humbled as always by their support.”
