For the 4th time this season Crawley locked horns with Edgware Town. The record thus far was a 2-1 away League win for Edgware on the opening day of the season. This was followed by wins for Crawley in the League Challenge Trophy on penalties after a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 away win for the Maroons in the League Cup. So the promise of another close encounter proved correct as the hosts edged out the Maroons with a 2-1 win.

True to form It was a game of few chances in a closely fought contest.
Crawley went close to opening the scoring following with a good run down the left and shot from Phil Draycott which went just wide. Sam McClelland then had a header cleared from a free kick from new singing Glenn Cooksley.

After 22 minutes another good run from Draycott ended in agony as he pulled his hamstring. Crawley switched off after injury break and were caught out by a through ball which found Edgware’s Theo Ofazi who planted the his shot past George Rose to make in 1-0.

Crawley battled back and in added time they drew level. Billy Lobjoit has a shot blocked and the rebound fell to James Younger who drilled the ball past Frazer Siddall to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half again produced a lot of effort with no real end product. In the 70th minute Edgware’s Scott McCleish was booked for a coming together with Crawley’s keeper George Rose. This was quickly followed by a Sin Bin for dissent. Three minutes later Crawley spurned a golden opportunity to take the lead.

Another free kick from the right by Cooksley found an unmarked Mark Bunker in front of goal but he scuffed his shot and the chance was gone.

A minute later Edgware took the lead. Ofazi got the better of Crawley’s defence and he broke clear to make it 2-1.

The Maroons bombarded the Edgware goal looking for an equaliser but all they got for their efforts was yet another injury this time to Michael Draycott.

On Saturday Crawley entertain Potton United in the League and next Tuesday they travel to Bedford Town in the Beds Senior Cup.
