The Maroons go down 4-1 to Bedford Town

Bedfordshire Senior Cup
Tuesday 10 Dec 19
Bedford Town FC 4 v Crawley Green FC 1

Crawley Green bowed out of the Beds Senior Cup as they were comfortably beaten 4-1 by The Eagles. Lying 6th in the BetVictor Southern Central Division Bedford dominated the game from the start.

After a number of good runs and crosses from Dan Walker had been cleared by the Crawley defence the hosts took the lead in the 10th minute. Connor Tomlinson received the ball on the edge of the box and he drilled his shot past George Rose to make it 1-0.

An organised Crawley then defended well as Bedford looked to increase their lead. Rose saved an effort from Callum Donnelly before Crawley responded with a shot from James Younger which went into the side netting.

Crawley’s Michael Draycott headed clear a crashing shot from Donnelly and Rose saved well from Connor Calcutt. Draycott blocked a shot from Drew Phillips and Danny Watson replied with an effort which was blocked at the other end as it finished 1-0 at the break.

Crawley started brightly in the second half as Adam Marsh and Watson both had shots blocked. Rose then saved a free kick from Ben Ford and Crawley’s James Younger had a shot go just wide.

The Eagles responded and increased their lead after 58 minutes when Drew Phillips headed in a cross from the right. Ten minutes later Phillips doubled his tally when he converted another cross from the right to make it 3-0.

To their credit Crawley continued to battle and they were rewarded with a goal in the 89th minute. Glenn Cooksley and Spencer O’Leary combined to set up Alex Marius who drove home to make it 3-1.

In added time Bedford added a 4th with an own goal. Rose made a great save to deny Phillips a hat trick and from the corner the ball cannoned off Crawley’s Tyler Ingham to make it 4-1.

On Saturday Crawley Green entertain Oxhey Jets.
