Crawley Green FC 0 v Leighton Town FC 5

Crawley Green were soundly beaten 0-5 by high flying Leighton Town on a difficult afternoon for the Maroons. The hosts started brightly with an early free kick from Phil Draycott which went over the bar and followed with a good cross from the left by Leejhai Henriques which was cleared.

However the visitors quickly got into the game and netted twice in the first twelve minutes. After 7 minutes Mark Blower, who was standing in for the injured George Rose, saved well from Marcus Mealing, Town attacked again down the right and the ball fell kidly for Mealing to make it 0-1 to the visitors.

One quickly became 2 when on 12 minutes Jordan Frederick picked the ball on the left. From fully 23 yards he unleashed an unstoppable shot which flew past Blower to make it 0-2.

Crawley replied with a Watson shot which was saved by Brad Kirkwood and Town came back with an effort from Collier which was kept out by Blower.

Watson had another shot saved and Kirkwood then parried an effort from Draycott into the side netting. On the break Town's Tom Silford broke down the left and shot just wide of Blower's left hand post and it finished 0-2 at half time.

The second half started with another good run run and cross by Crawley's Henriques and Sam Holmes had a shot go wide.Mealing shot wide for the visitors before they killed the game with the 3rd goal after 50 minutes. Collier capitalized on a Tyler Goode error to shoot past Blower to make it 0-3.

Three quickly became 4 seven minutes later when a mistake by Chris Crook let in Collier and his shot past Blower rebounded off both posts to make it 0-4.

Town wrapped the game up with a 5th following yet another mistake by a Crawley player. This time it was James Younger who gave the ball away and Mealing followed up on Collier's parried shot to make it 0-5.

The Maroons need to raise their game for the visit of Colney Heath on Tuesday 29 Sep 20 who were last season's Champions elect before the lock down.
