Well deserved point for the Maroons

Spartan South Midlands League
Premier Division

Risborough Rangers FC 0 v Crawley Green FC 0

Bottom of the League Crawley Green turned in a cracking performance as they deservedly took a point against top of the table Rangers.
The game was badly affected by the uneven sloping pitch and a prevailing wind which were both in Crawley's favour in the first half.

A pumped up Rangers came storming out of the blocks. Bailey Osbourne had a chance in the first minute which was cleared and Crawley had Luke Andrews and Marlon Burton both booked with only 6 minutes on the clock.

Crawley settled and Ernest Njoroge had a tremendous drive which was kept out by a flying save from Jack Brooker.
Andrews then went through but was pulled back and Crawley's appeals for a penalty were waived away.

Minutes later Brooker turned round another effort from Andrews and from the corner Matthieu Racine headed over.

After 29 minutes Rangers nearly took the lead when Marcus Wyllie broke clear but his shot went just wide of Crawley's left hand post.

Minutes later it was Crawley who had a chance to take the lead. Joe Hankins was put through but his snatched lob went over the bar and it finished all square at half time.

After the break Rangers had the advantage of the wind and slope. Josh Fox and Gavin James both had early efforts go over.

Crawley replied with a shot from Jake Kissiedu which went wide and Rangers' James then had a goal ruled out for a foul in the build up.

Crawley defended well and were always a threat on the break. The leaders got frantic in the closing stages and there was an almighty scramble in the Crawley area with James and Sean Coles both having shots blocked.

So against all expectations the game finished goalless and the Maroons came away with a thoroughly well deserved and hard fought point.

On Tuesday Crawley host the new leaders of the league New Salamis and Saturday travel to London Colney for a 2pm kick off.

Crawley Green Reserves won 4-1 at Marston Melton Rovers with goals from Jacob Younger, Kyle Lewis and a brace from Rashaun Rittigan.

Next Saturday they host Shefford Town & Campton Reserves.
