Wands go out of Kent Senior Cup

CRAY WANDERERS vs RAMSGATE
KENT RELIANCE SENIOR CUP: 2nd ROUND

Cray Wanderers 0

Ramsgate 1
Schulz 16

Cray went out of the Kent Reliance Senior Cup as Ramsgate went through rather comfortably in a scrappy game on a cold evening at Hayes Lane.

The game only went ahead following a lunchtime pitch inspection. Cray made two changes to the starting line up to the one which started at Sudbury on Saturday with Danny Lye and Ian Daly coming in for the injured Nick Humphrey and Rory Hill.

The first half was one of few chances. Cray began the game well but found Ramsgate’s defence hard to break down early on.

On 16 minutes Ramsgate went ahead when Aaron Quain’s free kick was played to Dan Stubbs whose ball in to the box was deflected into the path of Warren Schulz who headed the ball into the net.

Cray had a fair amount of possession after that and a few free kicks but nothing came of them. The Wands were unlucky when Kerry Kedze’s cross just eluded the onrushing Ian Daly.

Ramsgate almost went two nil up five minutes before half time when Ricky Gundry flicked on to Quain who ran into the box but his shot was saved by Darren Behcet.

The closest Cray came to scoring in the first half came in stoppage time when Ian Daly and Hussein Isa combined to set up Welford but his shot went across the goal and wide.

Half Time: 0-1

The second half picked up pace at the start of the half with Ramsgate looking to add to their lead with Connor Heffernan’s shot deflected for a corner. Shortly after Stubbs shot wide of the goal.

Cray were unlucky not to score when Ian Daly was played in from Isa’s free kick but slipped as he was about to shoot, with Welford following up his shot was blocked for a corner. From the corner Daly’s back header went wide of the far post.

The rest of the half was rather disjointed with Ramsgate looking very resolute at the back and Cray struggling to create chances.

Ramsgate almost scored again in the 84th minute with probably the highlight of the match when Ira Jackson picked up the ball well outside the area and his skidding shot came back of the post.

In the last few moments Cray pressed for a goal and had a number of free kicks and corners but the best opening came when Isa’s free kick was headed wide by Dmitri Larin.

In the end Ramsgate ran out winners in a game that wouldn’t live long in the memory.
