The Wands are back in action at home in the league tomorrow remarkably for the first time since the exciting 3-3 draw with Aveley on 22nd October when we entertain Ware. Kick off is 3pm. The return of former skipper Alex Stavrinou will hop...efully give Wands supporters a great deal of heart as Stav was a huge fan favourite.
Our opponents tomorrow from Hertfordshire have been one of the surprise packages of the league so far and after today's games are currently in sixth place one point outside the playoff places.
This is the first of 3 successive home games in the league for Cray with Dereham making the long trip down on Tuesday night (16th) from Norfolk and the following Sunday at home to highflying Harlow Town. After today's games Cray have a bit of catching up to do points wise to move out of the bottom four. However performances recently have been good without necessarily getting the results so maybe we need to play poorly and scratch out a win tomorrow.
Our previous meeting with Ware this season back in August was possibly one we would want to forget as Ware outplayed us that day and ran out 4-1 winners. Supporters of a certain vintage may choose to prefer to remember our only other previous home fixture against Ware in the FA Cup in September 1971 when Cray ran out 3-0 winners at Grassmeade with goals from Colin McGannon, Ron Wissenden and Trevor Ford.
Just a note for those coming in tomorrow by car to beware of Road Works in Hayes Lane on Sunday as well as the switching on of the Christmas Lights. You may be best to allow some extra travel time.
