What a difference a week makes! After the numbing sensation of a poor performance the week before against Stroud, Cricklade once again showed their true mettle in dispatching the new league leaders in double quick time on their own ground and reclaiming ownership of the top spot in GCCL Division 6.
Following some damp weather, the crucial toss was won by the skipper who wisely asked the home team to bat on a wicket that looked like it would provide some help for the bowlers (Groundskeeper Willy please take note). The importance of the toss was quickly evidence by a rapid collapse of the home batting against the very different threats posed by The Turtle (4 for 10) and Shagger (4 for 19), leaving Kingsholm on 21 for 8. Some late resistance was ended by Captain Jack Danford and Shaun “The Wizard” Bradley and the innings closed on 66 all out.
Cricklade’s batters made short work of the target, losing only the wickets of the skipper and Sam Pinchin, reaching 67 for 2 in only the 16th over to seal a comprehensive victory by 4pm!
An excellent win for what, on paper, was a weakened Cricklade team missing The Kray twins, Coxy, JB and Pagy.
The Big Van World Man of the Match was Mike Mabbatt for his excellent spell of 9-4-10-4. Well bowled Mabbs!
