Cropredy 3-2 Horspath Saturday, February 9 Oxfordshire Senior League, Premier Division

Cropredy secured back to back win's at Williamscot Road on Saturday, running out 3-2 winners against Horspath in the OSL Premier Division - inspired by a Clark Berry brace, the centre-back now has 4 goals this season!

The home side got off to a great start taking the lead on 20 minutes following some confident football. Horspath half clearing the ball from a corner, but it fell to Dan Reeves who swung the ball back into the box finding centre back Clark Berry unmarked and 8 yards out, Berry rose to power home into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Cropredy continued to enjoy the majority of the possession but against the run of play Horspath found themselves level on 30 minutes - albeit in controversial fashion. A through-ball was knocked on by the front man who had come back in from an offside position according to the linesman, but he found himself over ruled by the referee and the Horspath forward Craig Thomas rounded keeper Kurt Fox and finished well into the net. Horspath came back into the game for a ten minute spell following their equaliser, but Cropredy still looked dangerous on the counter attack, front man Joe Fox dropping into spaces, collecting the ball causing the Horspath centre halves plenty of problems. Just before the half time time whistle Cropredy were back in-front with a great breakaway goal, winger Jack Welch broke down the left hand side, driving towards goal with Joe Fox in support, Welch drew the defender in before laying the ball onto Fox who finished well past Martin Clarke into the bottom corner.

The second half was a dominant one from Cropredy, with Horspath on the back foot they created a number of chances but were left frustrated in extending their slender advantage. Amongst a number of missed chances, the Horspath keeper Clarke found himself in inspired form pulling off a fine triple save following three close range efforts. There was also a superb piece of goal line defending when a corner whipped in by Welch that looked destined to drop into the net, it was headed clear from a Horsptah defender who had dropped in and somehow got the ball onto the bar and away to safety.

The third goal for Cropredy came with 10 minutes left to play, a ball over the top released Clark Barry who lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper to extend the home sides advantage. The action was not complete though, Horspath responded with a tidy finish from Josh Smith, a free kick was played into space releasing the Horspath forward who drove the ball across goal and into the bottom corner. Cropredy defended well to see out the game for the remaining minutes as they picked up another home win, a dominant display from the home side who should have killed off the game far earlier had chances not been squandered. Full credit to a battling Horspath side who kept the game alive right up until the final whistle.

Cropredy are at home again this Saturday as they entertain Kennington Athletic, Cropredy will be looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat when the sides met earlier on in the season.

Up The Crop!
