Cropredy 0-0 Heyford Athletic Wednesday, April 17 Oxfordshire Senior League, Premier Division

Cropredy finished up their home campaign with a hard fought goalless draw against current champions Heyford Athletic on a perfect evening for football at Williamscot Road.

The game was played at a frantic pace for the full 90 minutes, getting off to a fast start with both sides having great chances to open the scoring in the first ten minutes. The first chance fell to Heyford, their lively right winger who gave Cropredy full back Gavin Connor a busy first half, delivering a good ball into the box that the front man pulled down on his chest before seeing his shot smothered by Kurt Fox when through on goal.
Crop's opportunity arrived via a corner kick, the first header won by a blue shirt found its way to Clark Berry 8 yards out who turned the ball goal-wards but saw his effort saved by the Heyford stopper.

The remainder of the half brought little in the way of goal scoring opportunities Heyford enjoyed the better of the possession with the right winger delivering many good balls into the Cropredy box, none of which brought any real chances with the home side defending well.

The second half saw the pace of the game maintained, very end to end but without any significant efforts on goal. The returning Harry Walters worked hard up front and put a big shift holding the ball and bringing others into the game.

Heyford had two big chances to win the game, the first was a goal mouth scramble with the ball being blocked twice at point blank range before being cleared for a corner, the second brought an excellent reaction save from Kurt Fox who stuck a leg out and turned a close range effort wide.

Having had the better opportunities to win the game Heyford may have felt they should have left with more than a point, a game played at great pace with both sides giving everything. Cropredy were made to work hard for the point, showing great grit and a good shape to cope with a decent Heyford side who are always a tough opposition.

Cropredy finish up on Saturday at leaders Freeland, where they will need to perform at their best to come away with a result.
