Cross Keys RFC Communications19 Jan - 12:00

Saturday 24th January

Saturday 24th January 2026 | Llangennech Main Field | 2:30pm Kick-Off

Cross Keys travel west this Saturday for their Round 16 WRU Admiral Premiership fixture, taking on Llangennech RFC away from home. With momentum restored after a convincing home win last weekend, Head Coach Chris Davies and Director of Rugby Morgan Stoddart will be looking for their side to back that performance up on the road.

Recent Form: Confidence Rebuilt
After a frustrating run earlier in the campaign where performances often went unrewarded, Cross Keys have shown clear signs of progress in recent weeks. A strong away record since November and last weekend’s emphatic home victory over Narberth have underlined the squad’s growing confidence and cohesion.

Cross Keys Season So Far:

  • R1 (6 Sep): Ystrad Rhondda 26–25 Cross Keys
  • R2 (13 Sep): Cross Keys 25–24 Brecon
  • R3 (20 Sep): Narberth 21–17 Cross Keys
  • Cup Prelim (27 Sep): Cardiff Met 26–22 Cross Keys
  • R5 (4 Oct): Beddau 22–20 Cross Keys
  • R6 (11 Oct): Cross Keys 13–23 Bargoed
  • R7 (18 Oct): Pontypridd 26–19 Cross Keys
  • R8 (1 Nov): Newbridge 10–17 Cross Keys
  • R9 (8 Nov): Cross Keys 25–47 Neath
  • R10 (15 Nov): Llanelli Wanderers 17–23 Cross Keys
  • R11 (13 Dec): Cardiff Met 10–13 Cross Keys
  • R12 (20 Dec): Postponed – Cross Keys vs Merthyr
  • R20 (27 Dec): Cross Keys 22–11 Newbridge
  • R13 (3 Jan): Postponed – Cross Keys vs Ystrad Rhondda
  • R14 (10 Jan): Brecon 17–13 Cross Keys
  • R15 (17 Jan): Cross Keys 31–13 Narberth

That 31–13 victory over Narberth was one of the most complete performances of the season, combining physical dominance with accuracy and control.

The Opposition: Llangennech RFC
Llangennech are always a tough proposition at home. Known for their physical edge, strong forward play, and direct style, they will be keen to make life difficult for visiting sides, particularly in tight, high-intensity exchanges.

This fixture also represents the first league meeting between the sides this season, after the scheduled home match earlier in the campaign was replaced by Cross Keys’ Premiership Cup tie at Cardiff Met. That adds an extra edge to Saturday’s encounter, with both sides eager to make a statement.

Keys to the Game

  • Match Physicality Early: Llangennech thrive on front-foot momentum, especially at home. Meeting that intensity from the opening exchanges will be crucial.
  • Set-Piece Control: A solid scrum and accurate lineout will be vital in controlling territory and tempo.
  • Discipline & Game Management: Away fixtures often hinge on discipline. Limiting penalties and managing territory will reduce pressure.
  • Building on Momentum: Replicating last week’s accuracy and intent will be key to sustaining progress.

From the Coaching Team
Chris Davies (Head Coach):
“Last week was a step forward for us, but the challenge now is consistency. Llangennech away is a tough test, and we’ll need to be accurate and physical if we’re to come away with anything.”

Morgan Stoddart (Director of Rugby):
“We’re starting to see the benefits of the work the group has put in. Performances like last week are the standard we’re aiming for, and this game gives us another opportunity to prove that away from home.”
