Thanks to Izzy Jones for the report

The fresh air and autumn sunshine, combined with a string of recent wins, meant that Crostyx L1 team arrived in Basildon with bounce and optimism. A customary sharp warm up led into a very settled first few minutes, with the defence and midfield transferring the ball confidently and aiming to put into practice some new training drills that had begun to capitalise on the way that a new team had been gelling together. Unfortunately the confidence gave way to sloppiness: Basildon were hungrier for the ball in 50/50 contests on a fast, hard pitch and some misplaced passing from the Crostyx team twice allowed Basildon to come through the middle of the defence too easily. Clinical finishing from their forwards led to two goals, though fortunately Sarah Belsham's deflection on a short corner meant that the score was 2-1 after 35 minutes. However, the away team had to ask themselves some very serious questions at half time.

Crostyx began the second half with greater resolve, much better execution of basic skills and improved communication. Lou Feldman brought the score level at 2-2 from a short corner with 15 minutes to go, but the game was still not settled - Basildon were twice awarded a short corner, only for the ball to go in the back of the net moments after the umpire had blown his whistle. The last portion of the game was played end to end with both teams determined to clinch the win - Donna Blockley's left post put in from a final short corner meant that Crostyx came away with a 3-2 win and three points, but breathing a sigh of relief and knowing that the performance could have been a lot better.
