Hemel 2 Croxley Yellows 3
By Neil Arnold
Our First Win
So then, I have promised to take on the match reporting and truth be
told, last weeks defeat to Chorleywood wasn't the easiest one to
Today though is just that little bit easier, with a brilliant 3-2 win
for the Yellows.
So a quick match report and then I'll talk about some or all of the
players individually (to be fair much depends on how quickly I can
write all of this before Match of the Day 2 starts).
The first half we started well, pushing Hemel back and forcing a few
corners. A couple of half chances but nothing to write home about, and
to be fair nothing to concern James (who at this stage was a mere
spectator). The first goal came from an absolutely brilliant
interception from Matt who stepped out of defence to win a tackle
before passing the ball to Rhys who was clean through on goal, Rhys
still had plenty to do but lifted the ball over the goalkeeper with
his weaker left foot to give us the lead with a really good finish.
The boys grew in confidence and were rewarded with a 2nd goal soon
after, Mateusz did brilliantly on the right hand side, running through
and firing a cross/shot which landed at Josh's feet, Josh managed to
eventually get a shot away but the ball was cleared off of the line by
the covering defender. Josh claims that the ball was over the line,
but I think that's more to do with him trying to claim an extra £1
from his Grandad and the ref rightly played on, only for Rhys to steam
through like the Hogwarts Express to smash the ball home.
All going well at this stage but Hemel came right back into things and
it was only down to 4 absolutely brilliant saves by James which kept
the score at 2-0 at half time. When I say brilliant, I'm probably not
really doing them justice, but when all your team mates are giving you
high fives, slaps or cuddles then you know you've done pretty well!
Into the 2nd half and Hemel came back into things, and I have to be
honest that I was surprised that they got a goal back (as James had
thus far looked as if even Messi or Ronaldo wouldn't have got passed
him), but a fine strike bought them back to 2-1.
We carried on being positive though and Josh scored a fine 3rd,
shooting home from the angle, even though Evan was trying to force the
ball over the line (I presume to try and claim the £1 from Josh's
Grandad!). Breathing space at this stage but why not make things that
little bit more exciting? So Hemel pulled one back with 2 minutes to
go which left coaches, supporters and presumably the players
themselves with a few hairy moments before the final whistle finally
went and we could celebrate that first win of the season.
MOTM - James 9.5 out of 10, not sure why you've lost 0.5 of a mark but
I feel like a strictly judge at this point, so 9.5 it is. Brilliant
though James, well done.
The rest of you 9 out of 10, you lose a mark for letting that 2nd goal
in and making the rest of us who were watching have minor heart
Robert - brilliant defending, your tackling was strong and fair, your
best performance of the season.
Spencer - Back in the Centre of Defence, Spencer you were as
commanding as ever, winning tackles, showing a great attitude and
staying in position.
Matt - Since you've moved back to help the defence Matt, you've been
absolutely brilliant and over the last 3 games consistently our best
player by some distance. The set up of the 1st goal today was
Ollie - You led by example, showed great awareness at times, dropping
back when required and really helped us to get over the line today
with your desire to win.
Rhys - Two goals today Rhys and we've been telling you for a few weeks
that they've been coming, there's more of that to come between now and
the end of the season.
Evan - Great work rate today, both on the right of midfield and up
front, you deserved a goal today - next week chap!
Sarvan - Really good performance today, you showed a lot of skill and
also a lot of common sense to get back and help your defence and you
made one fantastic interception to stop them scoring, well done.
Mateusz - You set up the 2nd goal today with an excellent bit of play,
driving forward and showing real quality with your play. Some neat
play afterwards and good passing too.
Josh - Great effort today Josh against a couple of big defenders, you
kept the ball well and scored a really good goal today by showing good
Guy - What a debut from Guy, you showed great tenacity, a lot of skill
and considering it was your first game, really good understanding of
the game and positions. You and Josh might need to stop having a chat
during the game in the future though :)
Is Match of the Day on yet ? (yet another Yellow having a great win today!)
Well done though boys, as some wise man said recently: "when you do
win, it will have all been worth the effort" - thanks Gary!
