The Early Days.
In 1997 Kevin O'Prey, the former St.Francis Hospital (now St.Francis Rangers) player and Manager decided to get some old friends together to start a football team based in a local Cuckfield pub - The Wheatsheaf. He set about contacting players he knew - many of whom were long since retired - to see if they fancied forming a team that would begin life in Division 6 of the Mid-Sussex League.
Kevins local knowledge and experience of players in the area proved fruitful and not only did Cuckfield Wheatsheaf hold their own in their first season but they won promotion to Division 5 the same year. Kevins dad Cyril took on the role as club secretary - a role he excelled in due to his great diligence and historic connections with Sussex Football. The club Chairman was Paddy Feeny who presented the BBC World Service Sports program every Saturday during his Radio and T.V. career.
Success breeds success and consecutive season promotions attracted more and more players to the club and the great reputation it had built over the years of enjoying both the competitive and social side of local football always remained.
The Present
From the start of the 2005 season former Franklands Village Manager Graham Weller agreed to take the club into a new era. He attracted many new players to compliment some of the older heads and also gave debuts to sons of many of the original players !! - over the following couple of seasons the team gained two more promotions to find itself in Division 2 of the Mid Sussex League.
Graham Weller and Gez Forster running the seconds in Div 5. The firsts have now fully evolved into a young strong team of great potential and the seconds are looking to build on their successful 08/09 campaign.
The committee have set out ambitious plans to put the club on a more structured footing and under the Chairmanship of Adie Chitty and their new name Cuckfield Rangers F.C. they are looking to build on their inclusive friendly culture with the further attraction and development of local talent creating a platform for long term success.
As of 2011/12 Cuckfield Rangers have 3 teams with Tommy Watson taking reigns of the new team in Div 9.
