Daisy Hill got off to a winning start with a fine 3-1 win over Bacup Borough in the opening First Division North match of the 2019-20 season.
On a bright afternoon at New Sirs, Daisy's start to the game matched the conditions, building a three goal lead by half time, and showing no mercy against a Bacup side with a number of regulars missing.
The foundations for the win were built in the opening 16 minutes, when Daisy established a two goal lead.
The opener arrived when Bacup's Ben Oldfield, making his senior debut, diverted a shot past his own keeper, and almost straight from the kick off Daisy doubled their lead when they regained possession after a loose pass in midfield, and Joseph Mullarkey finished off the move with his first goal for the club.
A minute before half time Jordan Hussey added a third goal with a well placed header from a corner kick, to round off a fine first half for the home side.
In the second half, Bacup did pull a goal back through a Louis Holding penalty, but there was no further scoring and Daisy held on to secure an opening day win.
