Darlington were instantly put on the back foot with early pressure from Ryton and disjointed defending from Darlington resulted in an early converted try 7-0. Darlington then started to build some momentum moving forward and forced the home side to concede several penalties. Darlington were unable to capitalise from the resulting attacking lineouts with Ryton beating Darlington in the air.
Ryton forced their way up field and their eagerness caught Darlington off guard with a quick penalty and broke to score their 2nd try of the afternoon but missed the resulting conversion – 12-0. This was shortly followed by 3 points punishing Darlington’s indiscipline – 15-0.
Darlington were again keen to respond and through constant pressure were awarded a penalty try for their hard work 15-7, but Ryton were keen also to respond and did their 3rd try and also adding the extras from the conversion 22-7.
Darlington’s defensive lack of line speed allowed Ryton’s 10 to put a kick into the corner which was pursued and picked up off the floor and scored for Ryton to secure their bonus point 27-7.
Jack Tully wasn’t ready to give up there – his attacking speed and footwork was too much for the Ryton defence and scored the last points of the game 27-12.
