Pipped at the post on tries conceded

The U9s played in the County Cup at Horden…not the one in London, or indeed the ground most players headed to first in Horden but the other ground in Horden that we all eventually found…even the Browns were there first and that’s saying something!

We welcomed Olly back who had recovered from his broken foot.

We played Ryton in our first game which we won 6 : 2. A very much one-sided game in which the boys put in strong tackles throughout the game.

We faced Billingham in our second game which again we won, 5 : 4. An end-to-end game which saw us less organised than in our first as we played too narrow. Our character showed however and our heads didn’t go down – our chins stayed up.

Game three saw Guisborough claim an 8 : 5 victory. This was our toughest game and despite tired legs, we put in some excellent tries.

Coming second in our group led us to the Cup quarter final against Blaydon and our best performance of the morning. We dominated the first half, encouraged by some very vocal support! The 6 : 6 draw led to some quick maths and we left the Cup at this point based on more tries conceded than Blaydon.

Thanks to our players' little brothers who were superb helpers today!

Mike
