End of Season Junior Newsletter

Wow I just can’t believe another season has whizzed by so quickly!!
And what another great season it’s been for Dart Hockey Club!
We have regularly had 40+ juniors to our Monday night sessions for our 8 to 14 year olds. It’s great to have such an enthusiastic bunch & particularly good to see more boys coming along.
This year we have once again, after a break of a couple of years, been able to enter boys teams into the Devon Tournaments at under 10’s &12’s & they along with the girls under 12’s & 14’s have played in 7 a side tournaments held roughly once a month. They have all done really well this year with our U10 boys & U12 girls getting through to the semi finals of the In2Hockey Regional competition at the end of the season so huge congratulations to them!
Next year we would love to enter teams in all age groups for both boys & girls so please continue to encourage your friends to come along.

Training
Officially our last outdoor training session of the season was Monday 31st March where we had a tournament with Easter egg rewards!
However after the success of last year we are again going to carry on our hockey coaching at the Kevic’s Astroturf through the summer term with the emphasis very much on game playing rather than skills training at the same time for juniors 6 –7.15pm. The sessions will be charged for separately on an as you come basis at £2 and are open to anyone who wants to come along. These will begin next Monday 7th April, but please note there will be no sessions on the bank holiday Mondays 21st April & 5th & 26th May

Also available for you really keen ones are some hockey camps, run by Devon Hockey, during the Easter hols held at Plymouth Marjon Uni, so if any of you are interested in these please contact me for details.
So there really is no excuse for you to go rusty again this year!!!

Other Events

Dart Hockey Club AGM & awards presentations are taking place on Sunday 27th April this year at The Rowing club in Totnes. The AGM will be 4-5.30pm ‘ish’ followed by the awards from 6-7.30pm with some refreshments after. Please come to both if you can but DEFINITELY try & get to the awards as you may be in line for a prize!!

Also the day before, Saturday 26th April, we are holding our 3rd annual Jason’s tournament. This is held in memory of Jason Wakefield a former member of our club who tragically died in May 2011 & whose family are still really involved in the Dart set up. It’s a great day with 10 to12 local teams age 13+ taking part in a “fun” fancy dress tournament with loads of other things going on during the day too! This year our fancy dress theme is ‘Superheroes’ so promises to be a very colourful affair! Please see the website for details & come along to support one of our hilariously dressed Dart teams, it’s all to raise money for the club!!

The Future

Things really are looking very bright for the future of Dart Hockey Club & that is thanks to the enthusiasm & support we have from all our juniors & their parents. It is so rewarding to watch a small child arrive not knowing how to hold a hockey stick & see them grow & develop into an accomplished player moving up into our adult hockey section.

We have had a record number of youngsters getting through to train & play at county level this year, and some have managed to go further than that. Our awesome young goalkeeper Olly Payne at U15 level made it right through to JRPC Tier 2 & played in the HIPAC cup! If this is a foreign language to you it means he was one level below playing for England! Such an amazing achievement for our local boy, who has played for Dart since he was 11.

Many thanks to all our coaches led by Tracey Pearce & Kerry Taylor & to our team managers who have tirelessly supported all our youngsters through all winds & weather.
A certain Sunday afternoon in Plymouth has to be mentioned when our boy’s team manager Annie Quartley had to literally be rung out after supporting both U10’s & U12 teams all day in atrocious conditions!!

I hope you all agree it’s been another fab season & if you can’t make it to any of the summer sessions or the AGM & awards we will see you back at Kevics on Monday September 1st.
