Chair's Corner

**CHAIR'S CORNER - FEBRUARY 2022 - SOPHIE WARREN**
Welcome to the Feb Chair’s Corner. We have lots going on as we near the end of the season.
Namely two huge games for the Club this weekend. First up is Men’s 1st XV vs Sittingbourne RFC, away at Sittingbourne. With 2 games to go in the season and the top 3 sides all currently on 12 wins and 2 losses, our 2nd place 1st XV Dartford lads travel to 3rd place Sittingbourne, in what will likely be a promotion showdown. Travelling support is very much encouraged!!
Secondly we have the Kent County Under-15's Girls Semi-final - Sunday 13th March live at Lodge. The Dartford Valley Crimson Roses Under-15 girls side take on Medway RFC in the Semi-final of the Kent County Waterfall this Sunday - kick-off 1pm. Come along and support the girls - they have worked hard and been awesome all season. They truly deserve their success, with 9 girls going for Kent County u-15 trials later this month! As always, all are welcome and a big crowd is expected as girls/female rugby goes from strength to strength!
Talking of female Rugby we thoroughly encourage you to watch ‘No Woman, No Try’ when its released on 25th March on Netflix!
CLUB SECTION UPDATE
U7s – Last week saw the mighty under 7s travel to Medway for a joint training session with Medway/Maidstone. They played in the awful downpour however, this did not deter our kids as they valiantly battled on and scored several tries.
U10s - Unfortunately didn't have any fixtures in Feb, but they have been working hard in training and have a very busy March coming up so we look forward to hearing all about their success in next month’s chairs corner.
Girls U13s are steadily gaining numbers, with more new faces joining the squad. Looking forward to seeing what these girls can do in the coming months. Well done all the Young Roses!
U14s Boys - The talented 14's boys had a tough month in February. Some knocks to multiple players saw 5 players (!!) on GRTP protocol and meant that they travelled to their Kent county 2nd round Waterfall with a scratch, under powered side. The results mean that they drop to level 2 in the county for the final round (level 2 out of 7 is still awesome!). They had a strong win against Gravesend under lights and a tough loss against Aylesford bulls last week. Big learning curve for this side but with 35 players, the future is bright.
Girls U15s are going from strength to strength, after placing top of the waterfall league as part of the Crimson Roses, we look forward to hosting the semi-final against Medway on Sunday 13th at 1pm.
U15/U16 boys – its been a quiet Feb with the boys concentrating on their important mocks BUT they do have a busy match schedule for March. Good luck in the exams boys and we look forward to seeing you back on that pitch soon
Senior Ladies - The Roses have had a hard month of training and getting their heads down for the last few crucial matches of the season. Last week they played a friendly against an NC1 team and only lost by 2 points which is a great sign for their potential promotion next year, well done the girls.
Senior Men - Although the 1st team have not been defeated since the last newsletter, probably the most pleasing aspect of that stat is the fact that, at the time of writing, we have not had a try scored against us. In view of the upcoming vital game at Sittingbourne, it is also pleasing to note that we are the top club for conceding the least points for away games in the league to date. Our young prop William Bellow recently came off the Kent U20 bench in the game Hertfordshire -V- Kent, where Kent recorded a record score against their opponents. We have had a number of players join the club, and they are very welcome additions to our player base. One would hope that by the time of the next item we have been successful at Sittingbourne and find ourselves in Kent 1. Now that would indeed be progress !!
Volunteer of the Month
This months volunteer of the Month is the superstar that is Nicola Johncock. Nicola Johncock, Club Safeguarding Officer, GMS guru, Membership chaser, Youth Academy Data Lead, Spond co-ordinator, Club photographer, social team member and all round legend and hero.
I am not sure since June last year there has been a day where Nicola and I haven’t spoken. There isn’t anything she isn’t willing to get involved in or help with. She’s often up late at night trying to sort Spond or up early organising the forms for youth academy festival entry and ensuring the Senior Men get their playing pictures for their next profile picture.
Nicola, I don’t know what we would have done without you this year, you think of all the things we forget and are always one step ahead of the game. You do everything with a smile and nothing is too much hassle.
Nicola is the definition of what a Volunteer at grass roots Rugby is all about, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without your support and help. Thank you will never be enough, don’t ever not wear Red & Black.
Player of the Month
This months Player of the Month is Ashley Ashleigh Bacon, our Senior Rose. Ashleigh is one of the quieter Roses, but is ALWAYS there in the background helping out. Whether its lending support to the Roses Management team on a match day or turning up to run the line or organise the VEO for the Junior Roses, she always steps up where its required.
A true advocate for Women’s Rugby at DVRFC, its truly appreciated that you help out when we need your support. Thank you for going above and beyond Ashleigh!
We look forward to seeing you pitchside as we sprint towards the finish line of our 21/22 season.
As always, onwards & upwards!!
Chair Sophie
