Dartford Borough Council last night unanimously supported the club’s request to use the council crest as part of its branding. Club Chairman James Aitkenhead expressed his delight with the outcome:

‘This is a massive vote of confidence for us and a testament to those people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure this decision. It will provide a boost in sponsorship and profile for the club and I would like to thank all groups of the Council chamber who overwhelmingly backed our request. We are proud to play our Rugby in the Borough and now we will be able to wear that pride every time we take to the field. With the introduction of Ladies Rugby and Youth side I am certain that this is the start of exciting times for the club.’

Council Leader Jeremy Kite echoed those sentiments:

‘It’s clear that Dartford Valley Rugby Club has big ambitions and that the sport and Club are growing in popularity. Like Dartford Football Club before them I’m convinced they will uphold the Borough’s great tradition of sporting excellence.’

Shadow Leader of The Council Geoffrey Prout also expressed his pleasure at the decision:

‘I am delighted that both sides of the Chamber were able to come together and support this local team. Although I know they will go from strength to strength, the work they have already done for the community particularly impressed me and is a sign of their commitment to Dartford. I am glad the council has repaid that commitment in kind.’
