Town progressed to the semi final of the Buckingham Senior Charity Cup with a comprehensive win over Grendon Rangers.

The visitors play in Division Two of the Spartan South Midlands Football League which is two steps below the UCL Premier Division. Jack Beesley and Adam Moussi came in for their first starts in Town shirts. Esuruoso partnered Rico Alexander at the back.

As expected Town were in control throughout the match and created multiple chances. The visitors weren’t overawed and performed admirably.

Town went in front on 9 minutes when an Adam Creaney corner found OLI ESURUOSO in the 6 yard box. His first effort was charged down but his second hit the back of the net.

Jordan Garrad went close to an equaliser when his shot from the edge of the area took a deflection and bounced just the right side of the post from Town’s perspective.

Adam Confue came close to extending the lead with a shot from 25 which hit the right hand upright before Chris Cox in the Grendon goal clearing his lines.

Adam Moussi had the next chance after Bettles made a lovely run down the right. His pass found Mousii who turned and curled his shot just wide of the post.

Dan Childs played a one two on the edge of the area before getting a shot in that Cox pushed away just inside the left post.

Jake Bettles went through the middle of the Grendon defence but again Cox was off his line and charged the ball down.

Jake Bettles had another rasping shot that Cox held well just inside the right post just before half time.

Grendon’s Dean Garrad had the first shot of the second half but the ball just cleared the crossbar.

An Adam Confue header was well saved again, Jake Dumbleton picked up on a mistake and turned and hit the base of the right post.

Dumbleton had another shot pushed wide by the Grendon keeper

Town created numerous chances throughout the second half but it was the 66th minute before they finally started to pull away.

DAN CHILDS got the second with a diving header from close range that found the corner of the net.

One minute later and JAKE BETTLES was left with a simple tap in for Town’s third goal.

JAKE DUMBLETON picked up on a mistake in the 77th minute for Town’s fourth goal before OLI ESURUOSO scored his second goal with a towering header in the 84th minute.

JAKE DUMBLETON grabbed his second and Town sixth in the 85th minute.

Credit to Grendon Rangers and their keeper who kept Town pretty much at bay for over an hour before the late flurry of goals.

Town will now will face a two legged semi final against either Winslow United or Olney Town.

Both teams have ex Town players in their current squads, Simon King and his brother Aaron are now at Winslow. Aaron was top scorer for Town last season during the championship success whilst Simon and their brother Neil have also pulled on the purple shirt. Chris Gilligan who scored a crucial last minute winner against Bourne Town moved to Olney Town early in the season.

Town’s next home match is a Hillier Cup tie against Kettering Town next Tuesday 7.45 kick off.

This Saturday they travel to Boston Town for a Knock Out Cup match before they host them back at Elderstubbs for a Premier Division fixture 7 days later.
