Town selected the same outfield players from the 3 1 victory at high flying Newport Pagnell. Ant O’Connor started in goal with Cerga on the bench. Recent signing Adam Moussi was named amongst the substitutes.

It was another good crowd of 138 following on from the 148 at the last home win v Sleaford Town.

On paper, with the Doughboys having conceded 5 goals on Tuesday as Chenecks won their first match of the season at the Dog and Duck whilst Town were taking the first points dropped at home off Newport Pagnell, there could only be one outcome?

It was a chilly but sunny autumnal afternoon as Town kicked off defending the “Staverton End”.

It was the visitors Michael Cirelli with the first goal bound shot of the afternoon. It was straight at O’Connor and the Town keeper dealt with it well.

Town were looking lively themselves although it took 10 minutes before Creaney cut in from the left to get their first shot which Campden held despite bouncing in front of him.
Jake Bettles made a superb run through the centre of the pitch but Campden did well to block his shot as the in form striker looked certain to put Town in front.

Jack Wisniewski had a great chance to put the visitors in front on 20 when his header on a free kick looped onto the roof of the net.

The Doughboys were having a good spell and 2 minutes later Mark Pryor just lifted a long ball just wide of the post.

O’Connor had to be alert as he gathered the ball right at the feet of Luke Reay.

Town fought back well with Adam Creaney sparking them into action, making a run across the penalty area before getting a shot in that the keeper took at full stretch.

More good work from Jake Dumbleton on the right created a half chance for Bettles but the shot curled just wide of the right hand post.

O’Connor had to be at his best when he turned a rasping Woods drive over the bar.

Creaney took Town’s first corner just before half time and the ball went across the front of goal without anyone getting the crucial touch.

The half belonged to the visitors however Town finished strongly.

Town started the second half well and a fierce Adam Creaney cross was taken by Camden at the second attempt.

Town went in front just before the hour. An Adam Creaney free kick found TOMMY McGOWAN who had pulled away from his marker and his header looped over Campden into the back of the net.

Nine minutes later and Town went further in front. Jordan Orosz’s excellent pass found Browne on the right side of the penalty area and his hard low cross found JAKE DUMBLETON at the far post and the young Mansfield Town scholar made not mistake.

New signing Adam Moussi made his first Town appearance in the 80th minute when he replaced Jordan Orosz.

Wellingborough hit back with just 9 to go when a long ball fell between Ross Harris and Ant O’Connor and the keeper caught Jack Wisniewski as he went past him and the referee pointed to the spot before booking O’Connor. Mark Pryor made for a tense final 10 by converting the spot kick.

Dumbleton made a great run into the box as Town tried to make the match safe. He was down under a challenge however the referee waved away Town appeals for a penalty.
Jake Dumbleton turned creator as his cross found Bettles but his shot went over the bar as the clock reached 90 minutes.

O’Connor had to make two crucial saves from big Joe Rich playing as a makeshift centre forward and Jack Wisniewski.

Town held on to move up to second spot with the news that leaders Leicester Nirvana had slipped to a surprise defeat at the improving Chenecks
