The match came just under one month after the dramatic 3 2 home win for Town. Arron Parkinson faces an FA disciplinary hearing on Monday evening following an altercation at half time during that match.

The home side could and should have been in front in the first 5 minutes of the match. They created two chances down the right wing with one cross put over the bar from just two yards out.

Town weathered the storm and settled into their normal game.

They created their first serious chance after 15 minutes. Good work from Orosz and Browne down the right, the cross found Jake Bettles however the ball got under the striker’s feet and he pulled his shot wide of the goal.

Eynesbury had a free kick on the edge of the area after Adam Confue was adjudged to have committed a foul on the edge of the box. The wall stood firm and blocked the shot and cleared to safety.

Town had gone in front at Elderstubbs in the home fixture after a misplaced pass from keeper Dan George. The keeper miskicked again almost to the minute and again found Fitzgerald however this time the South African was unable to get a shot in.

It was Town who started to take the ascendancy in the second half. Adam Creaney finding space in the box but a defender was quick to react and prevent the “Ginger Pele” getting a shot on target.

Phil Cassidy tried his luck on 53 minutes from 30 yards out but his shot went just wide of the goal.

3 minutes later and George fumbled a simple shot and this led to both Fitzgerald and Confue going down in the box, but the referee waved away both appeals.
Adam Creaney got to the byline, but his cross was blocked by George at the expense of a corner.

It was all Town now as a mazy run from Fitzgerald down the left ended with Confue upended. Adam Creaney took the free kick but the shot again went just wide.

Orosz crossed for Bettles striker minutes later but a defender just got a toe in to clear as the striker was about to shoot.

30 seconds later and Adam Creaney crossed for JAKE BETTLES to finish inside the 6 yard box to give Town a deserved lead on 64 minutes.

On 68 it took a spectacular save by Ant O’Connor diving to his right to keep the Town in front. From the resultant corner the ball was cleared off the line.

Town almost had a second when Bettles shot was only partially stopped by George. The ball spun under his body and headed towards the goal however the spin took the ball away from the goal and wide of the post before being cleared.

Creaney had a shot which was blocked by the keeper before Orosz had another effort which went just wide.

Then came another piece of Creaney magic. In the corner of the penalty area near the Town fans, ADAM CREANEY dropped his shoulder, made space for himself, and curled a majestic shot over the keeper into the top corner of the net which George could only watch in amazement.

Adam Confue tried his luck from 40 yards which the keeper held at the second attempt right under the crossbar before looking around nervously to check if he had gone over the goal line.

Eynesbury pushed at the end to try and get back into the match but Town remained firm. Special mention should also be given to debutant Max Smith and his fellow defenders who looked solid at the back. After an even first half, Town were the better side in the second and totally deserved the three cherries.
