Daventry went two goals in front, gave away two simple goals to allow their opponents to draw level, had a player sent off, and then score three further goals to send the Purple Army home happy.
The windy conditions played their part in the game too, the ball being blown across the pitch, making it difficult for players to judge the flight of the ball.
Ross Oulton had a free kick turned over the bar by keeper Paul Mcarthy and Adam Confue was unlucky to hit the cross bar, after a series of wayward shots from the Daventry forwards.
Town went ahead after forty minutes; Deqwon Ebanks smashing the ball past the Ashford keeper after Mykel Beckley headed the ball down into his path, to score his first goal for the club.
Daventry Town keeper Richard Morris made a good save just before half time, with both fists punching away a shot from winger Mark Bitmead. Daventry went two up with a fine individual goal from Ross Oulton, coasting into the area with the ball at his feet; Oulton hit a sweet shot past the floundering Ashford keeper Paul Mcarthy.
Daventry appeared to be in control of the game at this stage, but for two uncharacteristic mistakes from the Daventry defence. Confusion between keeper Richard Morris and defenders Joe Coleman, then Liam Dolman, allowed winger Samad Kali, to steal two goals within a space of five minutes.
Kali was allowed to drift in between defenders and keeper, to chip the ball over the head of Richard Morris on both occasions!
Having been two goals ahead, Daventry soon found themselves a player light, full back Joe Coleman receiving a second yellow for tugging back Kali, who was looking to break forward, Daventry midfielder Adam Confue also went into the referees book for a foul on Rob Curtis, soon after.
The Purple Army suddenly went quiet, having lost a two goal lead and had a player sent off, but normal service was soon regained, a light touch off his head, providing the perfect finish for Mykel Beckley, to put Town back in front from a Neil King free kick.
Man of the Match Mykel Beckley continued his impressive pre –season form, having scored his seventh goal of the season, and then having a hand in Towns fourth, running across goal just as a free kick from Neil King was struck, obstructing the keeper’s vision.
It was enough to make Mcarthy fumble the ball and allow it to cross the line.
Towns dream start to the season was finally completed with substitute Scott Cross scoring with his only touch of the game, scoring Towns fifth goal in the ninety third minute.
Daventry Town got to Aylesbury FC next Tuesday 20th August and are away at Northwood next Saturday 24th August. The next home game is the big derby match against promotion favourites Rugby town on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August. It should not be missed!
